Gingerbread Cookies

8 tsp butter (1 stick)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves

Beat butter with sugar and molasses. Mix in egg. Sift dry ingredients and mix into wet mixture. Chill in freezer for 1 hour or refrigerate for 2 hours. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Roll out portion of dough 1/4" thick on lightly floured board. Chill remaining dough. Cut with cookie cutter and place on greased baking sheets. Decorate with raisins, chips or nuts if desired. Bake 8-10 minutes. Cool.
